.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 222 PM CDT Wed Oct 23 2024
A dry cold front is making its way through the PAH forecast area
this afternoon. Cooler air will briefly filter into the area
tonight and Thursday. Lows tonight will be about 15 degrees
cooler than last night with seasonal readings in the 40s, while
highs Thursday will be cooler than today but still above normal
in the 70s. High pressure will move off to our east Thursday
night as a surface low approaches from the northwest. Winds will
shift back to the south Thursday night, and temperatures will
warm right back up to well above normal readings Thursday night,
with record/near record highs Friday.
The approach of the surface low and associated cold front will
spread shower chances into mainly southern Illinois and southeast
Missouri late Thursday night, with chances pushing into southwest
Indiana and areas along the Ohio River Friday morning. An
isolated thunderstorm is not out of the question Friday into
Friday evening. Models show QPF fizzling out as the front
continues to move southeast through the rest of the PAH forecast
area Friday afternoon into Friday night, so chances are low.
Overall QPF amounts will be a trace to a few hundredths of an
inch, with many areas not seeing any rain.
Surface high pressure will move east through the Great Lakes region
over the weekend. The PAH fa will be under the influence of
cool northeasterly winds Saturday, shifting the east Sunday.
Friday night lows will still be well above normal, but highs on
Saturday will be right around seasonal readings in the middle
60s to around 70s degrees. Lows will be a little below normal
Saturday night in the upper 30s to around 40 degrees.
We will see a warming trend starting Monday as high pressure
moving off to our east brings a return of breezy south winds.
The model blend gives us gusts of around 25 mph by late Monday
into Monday night, and potentially around 30 mph Tuesday. The
approach of a cold front brings chances of showers back to our
region Wednesday, but timing overall is still in question at
this point.
