.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Thursday)
Issued at 348 AM CDT Wed Oct 16 2024
For most areas, you will have already seen your high for the day
just after midnight. Temps will struggle to get back to that
number which is near 70F but a good portion of the area won't
make it. Very dry air is also moving in with dew pts in the 30s
and 20s, some 40s south shore due to Lake Pontchartrain. Temps
will fall to lows near 40F tonight over the northern tier but will
be about 15 degrees warmer on the south shore due to the lakes as
well. Still no rain expected and this is causing fuels to become
quite dry and quick to burn which is the reason for the Red Flag
Warning(term used for fire weather issues). Winds will be in the
10-15mph range today as well but this will quickly subside
overnight into Thu. Winds are strong right at north facing lake
fronts but quickly lower with a small distance inland so a wind
advisory is not needed this morning but gusty winds could still
move light objects like trash cans.

.LONG TERM...
(Thursday night through Tuesday)
Issued at 348 AM CDT Wed Oct 16 2024
Wind speeds will remain very light over the next several days and no
rain will keep things very dry as well. We will tack on a few
degrees each day and night to our diurnal highs and lows and may
finally see some 80F numbers litter the map by the weekend.

.AVIATION...
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 1213 PM CDT Wed Oct 16 2024
Gusty northeasterly winds at 15 to 25 knots will gradually weaken
below 10 to 15 knots into the overnight hours and become more
easterly by Thursday morning. No other impacts to note at any
terminals, VFR through the cycle.
&&
.MARINE...
Issued at 348 AM CDT Wed Oct 16 2024
A strong cold front has moved through the northern gulf this morning
bringing strong NE winds of 25-30kt with frequent gusts to gale
force. Marine flags will remain in scope and timing. Winds will
gradually ease over the next few days and may drop back to caution
flags or less Thu and Fri but winds will rise once again by the
weekend to possibly advisory conditions. This will be due to an
easterly wave moving through the gulf interacting with the very
strong high pressure to its north. Unfortunately, we are not done
with the easterlies yet. Every year the westerlies and easterlies
fight this out in the spring and fall and we will watch this same
dance continue this month until they are supressed far enough south
that they don't affect the northern gulf any longer which is usually
sometime in November or even as late as December. Winds should ease
again by mid next week.
