Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Cleveland OH
138 PM EDT Thu Oct 17 2024

.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will remain over the Ohio Valley through early
next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/...
High pressure across the region will continue to promote dry
conditions. A cool air mass remains over the region and will
allow for temperatures to drop with calm, decoupling conditions
tonight. Have issued Frost and Freeze headlines for areas still
in the program. The cool valleys and drainage areas of interior
Northeast Ohio should do well tonight with cold temperatures with
areas to widespread frost conditions elsewhere, even fairly
close to the lakeshore.

High pressure becomes more centered across the area on Friday
and return flow will allow for slowly warming temperatures. High
temperatures should reach the 60s across the area on Friday and
lows will be marginally warmer to allow for less frost for any
counties still in the program.

&&

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
High pressure in control through the short term period. Dry weather,
no POPs. Slow modification of this Canadian airmass continues as
afternoon high temperatures will push into the lower to mid 70s by
Sunday. Winds light out of the southwest.

&&

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Upper level riding/surface high pressure will eventually give way
mid week to an upper low tracking in from the Mississippi Valley and
a cold front dropping in from the north. As of right now, neither
system looks to be a significant precipitation event, but will add
some POPs to the forecast late Wednesday into Thursday. Temperatures
remain on the mild side for the extended forecast, with mid 60s to
mid 70s prevailing.

&&

.AVIATION /18Z Thursday THROUGH Tuesday/...
VFR conditions are expected through the period with high
pressure across the region. Some scattered low VFR cumulus
remains over the area where some light flow remains off the lake
but these clouds should disappear with the diurnal cycle and
with backing flow. Light winds expected tonight with a south to
southwest wind direction favored into Friday.

Outlook...VFR expected through Tuesday.

&&

.MARINE...
Northwest winds less than 10kts today become light and variable
Friday with high pressure building into the region. Waves falling
below 2ft today and will remain below a foot through Sunday as winds
become southwesterly less than 10kts.

&&
