.SHORT TERM...
(This evening through Sunday night)
Issued at 108 PM CDT Sat Aug 3 2024

Tonight through Sunday, the lingering frontal boundary slides
southward into the Gulf, continuing the slightly enhanced rain
chances tonight into tomorrow morning. These storms will have main
threats of brief, gusty winds (40-50mph) and lightning where they
occur. Locally heavy rainfall will also be a concern for urban
areas inside of storm development. Once these storms slide
southward, ridging sets up again over our area, and conditions
become a bit drier again with only isolated to scattered rain
chances forecast for Sunday. As a result, Sunday will once again
be hot with little chance for relief. High temperatures are
forecast to be in the upper 90s with heat index values between 108
and 112 degrees. Therefore, a heat advisory has been issued for
our entire area for tomorrow from 10a to 7pm CT. Remember to stay
hydrated and wear light- colored, loose-fitting clothing. Also,
take frequent breaks if you will be working or spending time
outdoors as heat is cumulative! MSW

.LONG TERM...
(Monday through Friday night)
Issued at 108 PM CDT Sat Aug 3 2024

Monday through next week, the ridge stays in place over our area
for the week. The tropical system will be heading more toward
Florida, based on the latest forecasts from the NHC, and so we
aren't expecting direct impacts from the system. This means that
the hotter and drier weather will persist into next week thanks to
the ridge building over the area. There are even some indicators
that we could break a couple heat records, depending on how things
set up. With only isolated rain chances expected all week, the
heat will be the biggest concern for our area this week, looking
at the models. Daily highs will be in the mid to upper 90s with
several locations approaching 100 degrees for multiple days this
week. Heat index values daily are forecast to be between 110 and
118 degrees for most locations, so heat headlines are likely all
this week. This is very hazardous as heat is cumulative and heat
stress builds up over time. So the longer we see high temperatures
and relative humidities, the more stress people's bodies are
feeling each day from the heat conditions. Another thing worth
noting is that overnight low temperatures will not drop below 80
degrees all week either, which will just add to the heat stress.
This is especially true for urban areas (i.e. New Orleans, Baton
Rouge, MS Coast) because the heat will linger longer into the
evening in these areas due to the concrete/asphalt trapping heat
more readily, resulting in a shorter period of recovery. So,
overall, don't expect much rain this week to provide a break for
the heat. And expect very HOT conditions this week, so take
precautions! Stay hydrated! Take frequent breaks when working
outdoors or doing outdoor activities, especially from 10a-4p every
day! Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing as well if
possible. And lastly, don't forget to account for your pets! If
you are hot, they are hot! Stay coool! MSW

.AVIATION...
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 108 PM CDT Sat Aug 3 2024

VFR conditions prevail at all area airports and will persist
through the forecast period. Some vicinity showers and storms will
be expected near all area airports today as scattered showers
popup over the area. MSW

.MARINE...
Issued at 108 PM CDT Sat Aug 3 2024

Winds will be mostly northerly to westerly and moderate
(10-15kts) tonight through midweek. Elevated winds and seas will
be possible Monday through midweek, mainly for the outer waters
as PTC4 enters the Gulf and moves toward Florida. Some exercise
caution or advisory headlines may be needed next week as a result.
Otherwise, expect daily scattered showers and storms which could
pose a hazard to mariners in the form of lightning and brief,
gusty (30-40mph) winds as they occur. As always, mariners should
keep up with the latest forecasts and monitor for changes. MSW
