.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 147 AM CDT Mon Aug 3 2026

There is troughing aloft over the east while ridging shift to the
Upper Midwest. With just a few remaining clouds over the far
southeast portions of the area and light winds, expect the
development of some fog this morning across portions of the
area. Thanks to high pressure we should stay dry through
Wednesday with the main activity to our east and southeast.
Given the mainly clear skies for today, expect temperatures to
come back up to the mid 80s. Expect this trend to continue
tomorrow and Wednesday with highs in the mid-upper 80s and even
a few 90s possible on Wednesday (40-60% in southern IL, 50-70%
in SEMO).

On Wednesday general troughiness sets up over the Northern Plains
and Upper Midwest while sfc winds turn back to the south. A few
ripples through the trof bring back mainly afternoon precip
chances Thursday through the weekend. Temperatures stabilize
around normal through the weekend as well. However, with the
return of mid 70s dew points, the heat indices will climb back
into the 100-105 degree range on Sunday and kick off our next
heat wave into next week. In the NBM the chances of hitting 90
on Sunday are 40-60% and 50-70% on Monday. In the LREF chances
of heat indices greater than or equal to 100 are 40-50% on
Monday. &&

.AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z TUESDAY/...
Issued at 1155 PM CDT Sun Aug 2 2026

Fog will be the primary concern tonight. However, between a
persistent light northerly breeze and scattered 4-5kft clouds,
fog may have a hard time setting in. Stuck with MVFR fog at all
sites, but did mention MIFG at KMVN and KCGI where clear and
calm conditions are most likely to prevail.

A 4-6kft ceiling is expected throughout the region through the
afternoon. Clear and calm conditions are more likely Monday
night, and it will not be surprising to see fog development by
the end of this forecast period.
