Before she knew it, London, Ont., resident Gail Hoevenaars had two pieces of cherished jewelry stolen right off her body. Police in various Canadian cities say such distraction thefts — where thieves quickly remove jewelry that people are wearing and replace them with fakes — are on the rise.
