...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 245 PM CDT THIS
AFTERNOON FOR NORTH CENTRAL JEFFERSON, SOUTHWESTERN ORLEANS,
NORTHWESTERN PLAQUEMINES AND WEST CENTRAL ST. BERNARD PARISHES...
At 123 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy
rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have
recently fallen in a short amount of time. Additional light rainfall
amounts are possible in the warned area that will continue to pose a
risk for flooding.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE...Radar.
IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
drainage and low-lying areas.
Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
New Orleans, Timberlane, Harvey, Chalmette, Belle Chasse, Marrero,
Gretna, Terrytown, Arabi and Woodmere.
This includes the following Interstate...
Interstate 10 in Louisiana between mile markers 235 and 236.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
