.NEAR TERM...
(Tonight) Issued at 934 PM CST Wed Feb 5 2025
Weak onshore flow continues to support the development of mainly
low stratus across mainly coastal Alabama into southeast
Mississippi this evening. Latest VAD profile from KMOB radar as
of 0323z continues to show 2-3kft winds between 15 and 20 kts
which is near the top of the low level moisture layer. This
suggests that there will be enough mixing of the boundary layer to
keep mainly low stratus in place with only patchy fog expected.
Further east, skies remain mostly clear with light low level winds
which is allowing for the development of dense fog in several
locations east of I-65. This will continue to be the case through
the night, although even here mixing near the top of the moisture
layer could support eventual low stratus development as well. So
expecting a mix of low stratus and dense fog in these areas.
There remains some uncertainty with respect to potential dense fog
development west of I-65, but considering the light near surface
winds and nearly saturated low level airmass, will continue the
dense fog advisory areawide through Thursday morning.
Temperatures will remain mild overnight with lows mainly in the
upper 50s and lower 60s with continued humid conditions. The
current forecast remains on track so not planning any forecast
updates at this time. Near record high temperatures in the mid 70s
to near 80 degrees are once again expected on Thursday afternoon
as fog and low stratus quickly mix out and give way to partly
cloudy skies after noon. /JLH
