.SHORT TERM...(This evening through Wednesday night)
Issued at 915 PM EDT TUE MAY 28 2024
Near term update---->
Isolated showers on the eastern portion of the CWA will diminish
by midnight. Weak shortwave energy will pivot across the northern
Ohio Valley, which could spawn additional showers for our northern
fa during the middle of the night. Still anticipating some valley
fog development overnight as some of the lower clouds clear out
and very light southwesterly winds persist. No major updates to
the forecast.
Previous discussion---->
Scattered to broken cumulus will continue
to cross the region into the early evening with an expected
decrease in coverage. May still get a few showers and possibly a
thunderstorm during the remaining daylight hours.
A series of short waves will drop southeast out of the Great Lakes
and brush by the region. These will bring some clouds as well as a
chance of showers and possibly thunderstorms, mainly to northern
counties, with most activity remaining north of the area.
Heading into Wednesday night, it will clear out as high pressure
starts to build further into the region.
Temperatures will be a bit below normal.
.LONG TERM...(Thursday through Tuesday)
Issued at 354 PM EDT TUE MAY 28 2024
Mid level flow will become highly amplified with a sharp ridge
translating east across the region through the latter part of the
week. This will result in dry conditions with not much in the way
of clouds. Should see pretty good diurnal ranges in temperatures
with areas falling into the 40s at night.
Once the ridge moves off to the east, a more zonal pattern will
ensue with a series of short waves tracking through the flow.
Expect to see showers and thunderstorms pass across the area with
the initial system Saturday night into Sunday. There may be
additional showers and thunderstorms both Monday and Tuesday,
although detail concerning timing is a bit murky as usually occurs
further out in time. Temperatures will warm up with highs pushing
into the lower to mid 80s.

.AVIATION...(For the 06Z TAFS through 06Z Wednesday night)
ISSUED AT 128 AM EDT WED MAY 29 2024
Patchy river valley fog is developing across the area, particularly
in the Big Sandy River basin. Expect brief MVFR/IFR in fog through
12-13Z in favored valley locations. Otherwise, mainly VFR conditions
with light surface winds overnight. After 15Z, westerly to west-
northwesterly winds will become gusty at times, with occasional
gusts in the teens, becoming light after 23Z. In addition, isolated
to scattered showers and storms Wednesday, mainly after 16-18Z
through 00Z Thursday will create brief MVFR conditions. Areas of fog
or low stratus expected to develop towards the end of the TAF
period, creating areas of MVFR/IFR conditions.|
