AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
National Weather Service Wilmington OH
400 AM EDT Mon Aug 19 2024
.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure and a dry airmass will be in place across the
region through the rest of the week. Below normal temperatures
are expected through Wednesday, before a warming trend develops
through the second half of the week.
&&
.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 7 PM THIS EVENING/...
Isolated to scattered light rain showers/sprinkles are pushing
south across central portions of our area this morning. These
have been gradually weakening and this trend should continue
over the next couple of hours. Otherwise, stratus will continue
to fill in through daybreak across our area with mostly cloudy
skies expected through much of the morning. Skies should then
become partly cloudy as we head into this afternoon as surface high
pressure begins to build in from the northwest. In continued
low level CAA, highs today will only be in the mid to upper 70s.
&&
.SHORT TERM /7 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 PM TUESDAY/...
The surface high will continue to build down into our area
tonight into Tuesday. This will lead to dry conditions and
mostly clear to partly cloudy skies. Temperatures will remain
well below normal. Lows tonight will be mostly in the low to
mid 50s although some upper 40s will be possible in some
outlying areas. Highs on Tuesday will only be in the low to mid
70s.
&&
.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Temperatures will be on a gradual but consistent rise through the
forecast period. Tuesday night lows will be in the upper 40s to near
50, rise to 50-55 Thursday night, mid 60s Saturday night and top out
65-70 Sunday night. Likewise, daytime highs will be coolest on
Wednesday with low-mid 70s, rise to the 80s on Friday (coolest
nw/warmest s and se), and reach the upper 80s to lower 90s for
Sunday and Monday.
Generally clear skies are expected through Friday, with clear to
partly cloudy conditions found for the remainder of the forecast.
Northern portions of the CWA stand the better chance for seeing a
few more clouds than in the south. As expected with little cloud
cover, precipitation is not expected in the extended forecast.
The driving pattern is for a low in the northeast U.S. to keep
northerly flow aloft as a surface high in MI meanders towards OH by
Thursday. While surface flow doesn't bring in any temperature swings
at the surface, consistently increasing heights behind the upper low
will bring a slow but steady rise in temperatures through early next
week.
&&
.AVIATION /08Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Isolated showers across central Ohio should slowly dissipate as
they push south over the next few hours but they may briefly
affect KCMH/KLCK and possibly KILN early in the TAF period.
Otherwise, MVFR cigs will continue to fill in across the area
through the early morning hours and persist through mid
morning. Cigs will then slowly lift into VFR and transition
into a sct-bkn cu field through late morning and into this
afternoon. North winds will prevail through the TAF period with
gusts to around 20 knots or so possible during the afternoon
hours.
OUTLOOK...No significant weather is expected.
