A typical summertime diurnal pattern continues through the
forecast package as an upper high pressure area builds over the
southeast states and northern Gulf over the weekend and into early
next week. We are expecting mainly scattered afternoon showers
and thunderstorms through Tuesday, followed by scattered to
occasional numerous afternoon showers and thunderstorms around
midweek. A surface ridge remains in place over the northern Gulf
through Monday, keeping a light southwesterly to westerly flow
over the forecast area. The wind flow becomes a bit disrupted
Tuesday through midweek as a possible weak low pressure area forms
and meanders across the northeast Gulf. We will continue to see
dewpoints elevated, and will need to monitor for heat index
concerns early next week with apparent temperatures mostly ranging
from 102-107 degrees. At this time we are not expecting to issue
any Heat Advisories as most indices should remain below our 108
degree criteria. Pulse thunderstorms are possible each afternoon
give ample instability and minimal shear, so we can't rule out a
few strong storms with gusty winds, locally heavy rainfall, and
frequent lightning.
Beach Forecast - The rip current risk remains LOW for the coastal
Alabama and northwest Florida beaches through Saturday with a bump
to a MODERATE risk expected by Sunday for the northwest Florida
beaches. A LOW risk is then expected through the middle of next
week. /22

VFR flight category prevails across the region outside of showers
and storms. Temporary reductions in flight category are possible
underneath any showers or storms, with best chances for this being
across southeastern Mississippi into interior portions of
southwestern Alabama through sunset. VFR flight category continues
through Saturday afternoon. Winds remain generally out of the
west at around 5 to 10 knots during the day, relaxing below 5

middle of next week outside of locally higher winds/seas and
reduced visibilities associated with occasional showers and
