.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 503 AM CDT Tue Mar 18 2025

Today through Wednesday night...
Surface high pressure shifts east of the area with onshore flow
returning today. This will usher in much warmer, moister air into
the forecast area allowing for highs to rise into the middle to
upper 70's today and upper 70's to lower 80's for Wednesday.
Overnight lows tonight will be a bit warmer as well bottoming out in
the middle to upper 40's east of the I-65 corridor and upper 40's to
middle 50's to the west of the I-65 corridor. A cold front
approaches the region Wednesday night bringing increased shower and
thunderstorm chances to the forecast area. Coverage will be
scattered to locally numerous after sunset into the overnight hours,
with best coverage occurring over the interior portions of the
forecast area. Meager CAPE should help limit any kind of severe
weather potential, however a stronger wind gust or two in storms
can't be ruled out over the far interior portions of the forecast
area. In the wake of the front late Wednesday night a much cooler
airmass moves in to the forecast area with lows dipping into the
middle to upper 40's west of the I-65 corridor and upper 40's to
lower 50's east of the I-65 corridor. A Low risk of rip currents
today becomes a Moderate risk for Wednesday owing to the
strengthening onshore flow. MM/25

Thursday through Monday...
Cooler and drier air works into the region on Thursday in the wake
of the front. Surface high pressure will be centered directly over
the forecast area by 12z Friday. After high temps rising into the
lower 60s for most locations (mid 60s at the coast) on Thursday,
with expected mostly clear skies and the position of the high
pressure should allow for good radiational cooling Thursday night.
Lows Thursday night will drop into the mid to 30s over all
interior locations (even a few low 30s for few spots up along the
Highway 84 corridor) and lower 40s at the coast. With these
conditions, patchy to areas of frost will be possible Thursday
night into Friday morning across the northern half of the forecast
area. The surface highs pressure drifts off to the east of our
area Friday through Saturday night, with dry conditions and
moderating temperatures expected. High temps by Saturday will be
in the mid to upper 70s and overnight lows rising into the 40s and
50s. Another cold front moves across the area Sunday night into
Monday, bringing the next chance for showers and thunderstorms.
Highs Sunday around 80 for most inland areas, mid 70s coast. Lows
Sunday night in the 50s, but daytime highs on Monday cooling just
slightly in the wake of the f remain light and variable through daybreak,
becoming increront, being in the low to mid 70s. DS/12

Light to moderate onshore flow returns today into Wednesday ahead of
our next cold front. A strong offshore flow will return late
