.PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 348 AM CST Sat Nov 30 2024/

..New NEAR TERM, SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, MARINE...

NEAR TERM...
(Now through Sunday Night)
Issued at 348 AM CST Sat Nov 30 2024

Cold and dry remains the story for the near term period. Surface
high pressure settles into the forecast area through Sunday.
Temperatures will remain quite cold with overnight lows in the
middle to upper 20's inland and lower 30's nearer the coast,
coldest tonight. A Freeze Warning remains in effect through this
morning with much of the forecast area already seeing temperatures
near or below freezing. Have opted to issue another Freeze Watch
for tonight into Sunday morning for all of the forecast area. The
expectation is for middle to upper 20's temperatures to reach all
the way into interior coastal counties, with lower 30's down to
our coastal zones which have yet to see a freeze this season. This
is thanks to the aforementioned surface high helping to calm winds
and keep our skies clear through the night to maximize radiational
cooling. The only locations that will likely escape freezing
temperatures would be on the immediate coast/beaches where middle
30's are expected. Overall highs stay near normal with middle to
upper 50's today and lower to middle 60's Sunday. A low risk of
rip currents continues through Sunday night. MM/25

LONG TERM...
(Monday through Friday)
Issued at 348 AM CST Sat Nov 30 2024

Northwesterly flow aloft continues through much of the period as
a semi-permanent longwave trough remains over the eastern CONUS.
An embedded shortwave is expected to round the base of this trough
on Monday. This will allow for a reinforcing cold front to push
through the area, bringing another shot of cold, dry air to the
region. Highs on Monday and Tuesday will only top out in the 50s
across the area. Lows will plummet into the upper 20s inland to
the mid 30s along the immediate coast. By Wednesday, surface high
pressure over the central US pushes to the east of the local area,
allowing for winds to shift from northerly to southerly. This
will help to modify the airmass, as warm air advection commences.
Temperatures will begin their warming trend on Wednesday, with
highs by Thursday ranging from the low 60s in our northern
counties to the low 70s along the coast. Lows by Thursday night
will range from the upper 40s north to the upper 50s south. In
addition to the warming trend, rain chances will return by
Thursday and Friday as moisture returns to the local area,
shortwave energy passes overhead, and the next cold front begins
to approach the area. /96

MARINE...
Issued at 348 AM CST Sat Nov 30 2024

A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect through 9am this morning
for Mobile Bay, MS Sound, and the Gulf waters. A Small Craft
Advisory remains in effect for the Pensacola Bay System through
6am. Strong offshore flow early this morning relaxes through the
day to a moderate northeasterly flow by this afternoon and light
northerly flow by tonight. Seas over the Gulf waters will be 3-7
ft this morning, highest beyond 20nm. Seas diminish through the
day into tonight. A light to at times moderate offshore flow will
persist through early next week with the strongest winds being
Sunday night and Monday night over the Gulf waters around 15
knots. MM/25
