.NEAR TERM...
(Now through Friday)
Issued at 1252 PM CDT Thu Oct 24 2024

Upper level ridging will continue to extend from the Southern Plains
across the northern Gulf Coast through Thursday night as surface
high pressure remains centered over the region. A weak mid level
shortwave trough will dig from the Intermountain West into the Lower
Mississippi Valley by Friday with the ridge shifting southeastward
to a position over the southern Gulf of Mexico eastward into the
Bahamas. This will allow for a weak cold front to sag southeastward
into the Tennessee Valley by the beginning of the weekend. This
front should remain too far north through the near term forecast
period to have much of an effect on the local weather conditions.
Therefore, very warm temperatures and dry conditions will continue
through the remainder of this week.

High temperatures will range from the middle 80s to near 90 degrees
both today and Friday, which will be approaching record temperatures
for this time of year. Lows will be a few degrees warmer as well,
ranging from the middle 50s over interior portions of the forecast
area to the lower and middle 60s near the coast.

Great beach weather is expected to continue for the remainder of
this week as light winds will maintain a low rip current risk along
with the near record warm temperatures and no rainfall in the
forecast. /JLH
