.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 222 AM CDT Fri Oct 25 2024

An upper level shortwave, now moving out of the central plains
will move east across the Quad State and weaken as it does. With
high pressure quickly moving east today, southerly flow will
bring increasing temperatures back into the area with highs in
the lower to mid 80's. The aforementioned trough is expected to
bring an increase in cloud cover today as well as the potential
for scattered rain showers. Better chance will be confined to
portions of southern Illinois. A cold front will then move
through the region from the NW this evening and overnight
veering winds toward the northwest behind the front. A few
isolated to scattered showers are possible as this front moves
through but any amounts will be very light.

High pressure settles in toward the north for the weekend along
with northwest flow aloft. This will bring cooler temperatures
with highs in the mid 60's to near 70 both Saturday and Sunday.
Lows will range from the upper 30's to low/mid 40's. Heading
into next week, high pressure is quick to move east with
deepening surface pressure to the west. Southerly low level flow
will pick up in response bringing warmer temperatures back into
the forecast. Highs on Monday will rise into the mid to upper
70's, and into the lower 80's Tuesday and Wednesday. Given the
strong winds and dry fuels, there may be some fire weather
concerns during this time. Toward the end of the forecast
period, guidance suggests a stronger disturbance should bring
another front through the region. There is potential that this
front could bring some much needed rainfall. However, it could
also impact outdoor plans for Halloween. Stay tuned for updates
on that in the coming days.
