Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Wilmington OH
239 PM EDT Thu Oct 10 2024

.SYNOPSIS...
Surface high pressure will shift slowly off to the southeast
through the day on Friday. A frontal boundary will move through
the region this weekend, bringing a chance for showers and a
few thunderstorms. A cooler airmass will settle into the region
behind the front for the start of the upcoming workweek.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Surface high pressure will drift slowly southeast across the
upper Ohio Valley tonight. With clear skies and light winds, we
will see yet another night of good radiational cooling. This
will allow for temperatures to fall into the mid to upper 30s
(with a few lower 30s possible) across our eastern areas and the
lower 40s across our west. Have issued a frost advisory across
much of our east and will buffer that with an SPS for patchy
frost.

&&

.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/...
The surface high will push off to the southeast Friday into
Friday night as a cold front approaches from the northwest. The
airmass will remain quite dry through the day on Friday,
leading to another sunny day. We should then at least begin to
see some increase in high level moisture from the northwest
ahead of the frontal system Friday night. Temperatures on
Friday will moderate a bit with afternoon highs in the low to
mid 70s. A tightening pressure gradient should help keep winds
up a bit more Friday night, with overnight lows ranging from the
mid 40s southeast to the mid 50s northwest.

&&

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Unsettled weather is expected for the first part of the long term. A
developing cold front will be the focus for showers and a few
thunderstorms that will mainly affect northern locations on
Saturday. More showers and storms along with gusty winds will be
possible on Sunday as a deepening upper trough pushes the cold front
south. Additional showers may occur on Monday as a short wave rounds
the base of the upper trough. Dry weather is likely to return for
Tuesday through Thursday when high pressure is forecast to push in
from the west.

Temperatures will show notable variation with respect to the frontal
passage. Above normal highs in the 70s to around 80 Saturday and
Sunday will plummet to the 50s to around 60 Monday through Wednesday
before rebounding into the 60s on Thursday. Morning lows in the 30s
Tuesday through Thursday will allow frost formation.

&&

.AVIATION /18Z THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
High pressure and a dry airmass will result in another night of
clear skies. With light winds overnight, areas of river valley
fog can be expected once again late tonight into early Friday
morning. With more of a southeasterly gradient, KLUK will likely
drop into IFR to VLIFR category for a few hour period around
daybreak. The valley fog will dissipate through mid morning
with clear skies and VFR conditions otherwise expected at the
TAF sites.

OUTLOOK...No significant weather expected.
