.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 225 PM CDT Wed Sep 4 2024

The 500mb disturbance responsible for our clouds and a few
isolated showers will push off to our southeast tonight. A brief
bout of ridging moves in on Thursday helping to boost highs
back to around 90. Meanwhile, to our north a deep trough will be
diving into the Upper Midwest before engulfing the eastern U.S.
this coming weekend. A strong cold front pushes through our
area on Friday. Unfortunately guidance suggests very limited
spatial coverage of rain, with very little QPF anticipated.

Robust cold air advection this weekend will lead to the coolest
airmass since April across the Heartland. Highs will only reach the
low to mid 70s with lows falling into the 40s in most locations
Saturday and Sunday nights. Humidity levels will also be quite low,
likely down around 25-30 percent on Sunday and around 20-25 percent
by Monday. Dry fuels and low RHs will lead to elevated fire weather
concerns by Sunday and Monday, although winds will be rather light.
Could see some places experience a 35-40 degree diurnal range by
Monday due to the dry airmass.

Drought conditions likely will be intensifying across the region as
continued dry weather is anticipated through next week. The upper
trough responsible for the weekend cool down will lift
northeast with increasing upper level heights early in the week.
Eventually 500mb ridging sets up over the middle of the country
mid to late next week leading to well above normal
temperatures. Highs well into the 80s again by Tuesday-Wednesday
and likely pushing around 90 by later in the week. A reminder
that summer's heat isn't done with us yet despite the nice
crisp weekend ahead of us.
