.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 252 AM CST Mon Jan 20 2025

Longwave troughing will move east through the next 24 to 36
hours with surface high pressure building into the region. The
main weather story will be the continued prolonged period of
cold weather. Highs today and Tuesday will remain in the 20's.
Lows tonight will dip into the single digits to teens, and
slightly colder Tuesday night with just about everyone seeing
single digits, with the exception being parts of SEMO. Seems
likely we will need another cold weather advisory for tonight
but some questions remain on winds so we will let the next shift
evaluate it. Added some flurry mention into the forecast for
tonight given the passage of the longwave trough axis.

Moving into Wednesday we see slight height rises before yet
another trough takes aim at the region. The forecast remains dry
during this period but some guidance does hint at some QPF so
will keep an eye on that going forward as a lobe of vorticity
swings through. Temperatures will be on the rise for the end of
the week. Highs climb above freezing by Thursday with highs in
the mid 30's to lower 40's with similar temperatures for Friday.
Southerly flow ahead of a system to the southwest will lead to
increasing temperatures over the weekend with temperatures near
seasonal values. A front will push through the region late in
the period bringing additional chances of rain to the area.
