.KEY MESSAGES...

- Another blast of arctic cold air today.

- A reinforcing shot of arctic cold will come with another cold
front's passage Tuesday. While a dusting of snowfall is
possible with its passage in the Evansville Tri-State region,
its main impact will be the cold air reinforcement. The
coldest readings will be late Tuesday night into early
Wednesday morning, when temperatures and wind chills bottom
out in the lower single digits (north) to teens (south).

.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 1253 PM CST Mon Jan 13 2025

A cold front has swept through the region this morning ahead of
a 1030mb sfc ridge over the Plains. With that front another
arctic airmass moves into the area. A closed low over the north
central US spins up an Alberta clipper overnight that moves into
the area. Tuesday bringing with it a few clouds and a small
chance of flurries or light snow showers. More cold and dry air
is the main thing we will feel from this system however. We will
stay cold and well below normal (on what is typically our
coldest week of the year according to climatology) through
Wednesday.

Mid-level ridging builds in later in the week and our
temperatures moderate more substantially with lows above
freezing and highs in the vicinity of 50. Jet-level lift ahead
of broad troughing on Saturday develops and helps a storm system
move through the area, bringing good rain chances on Saturday.
Limited moisture return should keep rain amounts down. This
system brings down a cold front that appears to have a polar
source airmass behind it, leading to sharply colder temperatures
once again with highs Monday advertised in the 20s and 5 to 15
degree highs. Fortunately precip mostly looks to remain at bay
during this period.

.AVIATION /00Z TAFS THROUGH 00Z TUESDAY/...
Issued at 511 PM CST Mon Jan 13 2025

VFR conditions expected through much of this TAF issuance;
however, some high end MVFR ceilings (around 3kft) are expected
late morning to early afternoon at each of the sites. This will
be associated with a quick moving clipper system. Otherwise,
winds will be fairly light overnight before increasing from the
southwest by early afternoon. Winds may reach between 10-15 kts
during that time period before shifting to the northwest toward
the very end of the TAF issuance.
