.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 250 AM CST Wed Dec 4 2024

GOES Ch-9 imagery shows an upper level shortwave moving
southeast into the Midwest this morning. Low level WAA and moist
advection is ongoing leading to mostly cloudy to overcast skies
across the region this morning. Temperatures are in the upper
20's to mid 30's at this time. An approaching front will lead to
increasing southwest flow at the surface today. Wind gusts up
to 35 mph will be possible, and possibly an isolated location
may see close to 40. Warmer temperatures are also expected with
highs in the upper 40's to upper 50's. Behind the front, strong
6 hour pressure rises of 5 to 8 mb are modeled which will drive
plummeting temperatures tonight. These pressure rises are also
signaling gusty northwest winds behind the front. Lows tonight
will drop into the teens to lower 20's. Wind chills early
Thursday morning look to fall into the single digits across most
areas. Rain chances with this front look pretty limited, but a
slight chance of rain is in the forecast for the Pennyrile area
of western Kentucky.

High pressure will settle across the Quad State Thursday into
Friday favoring dry weather conditions and much below normal
temperatures through Friday. More southerly flow develops on
Saturday as the highs moves off to the east. This leads to
moderating temperatures for the weekend. Likely chances of rain
arrive for late Sunday into Monday ahead of a southern stream
disturbance that lifts out of the southern plains. Temperatures
on Monday may rise above seasonal norms with highs in the upper
50's to lower 60's.

.AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z THURSDAY/...
Issued at 1113 AM CST Wed Dec 4 2024

Windy conditions is the main concern through tonight as all
terminals remain VFR. Mid-level clouds will continue to scatter
out tonight as a cold front begins to approach from the
northwest. A sprinkle or flurry cannot be ruled out mainly in
SW Indiana as the front moves through. Brief intermittent LLWS
is also possible between 00-03z this evening as a lull in gusty
winds at the sfc occurs.

SW winds between 10-20 kts with gusts around 25 kts veer NW
later tonight behind the cold front. Winds gradually begin to
diminish during the day Thursday as high pressure builds into
the region.
