National Weather Service New Orleans LA

...New UPDATE, AVIATION...

.UPDATE...
Issued at 1123 AM CST Thu Nov 14 2024

No significant changes necessary to forecast. Drier air working
into the area. More seasonable weather for a couple days.

&&

.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Friday)
Issued at 334 AM CST Thu Nov 14 2024

A cold front will clear the area around sunrise today and usher in
some nice cool dry air. No rain on the back side of the front and
highs will struggle to reach the mid 70s for most locations with
sunny skies...enjoy. This air will stay with us through the short
Fri.

&&

.LONG TERM...
(Friday night through Wednesday)
Issued at 334 AM CST Thu Nov 14 2024

The conditions provided by today's cold front will remain until the
weekend when return flow comes back from the gulf. A new cold front
will then knock on our door by mid next week. The synoptic pattern
is looking to become progressive as we move into next week with the
next front being more aggressive and strong with all cold frontal
attributes, cold dry air and strong winds but as far as severe
storms, we will need to see how this interacts with whatever
tropical depression 19 becomes over the next several days.

&&

.AVIATION...
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 1123 AM CST Thu Nov 14 2024

VFR conditions through the forecast period. Sustained north winds
around 15 knots possible at KNEW overnight, but otherwise no
issues.

&&

.MARINE...
Issued at 334 AM CST Thu Nov 14 2024

A frontal passage is causing winds to shift to NW this morning and
will be strong enough to raise advisory flags at least for tonight.
Even though winds will ease a bit today and may fall below criteria,
we will keep caution flags up sice this will be short duration of 2
to 3 hours before winds rise once again for the evening and
overnight. High pressure will settle over the northern gulf but not
for long as southerly winds will return over the weekend. Another
front could impact the northern gulf by mid next week with the
possibility of gales.
