750 FXUS64 KLIX 082055AFDLIXArea Forecast DiscussionNational Weather Service New Orleans LA355 PM CDT Tue Oct 8 2024...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, AVIATION, MARINE....SHORT TERM...(This evening through Wednesday night)Issued at 352 PM CDT Tue Oct 8 2024A quick synoptic analysis shows an upper level trough draped across the Great Lakes and extreme northeastern US, Hurricane Milton just north of the Yucatan and broad ridge across the remainder of the US. The CWA falls on the eastern edge of the ridge and western edge of the trough. As the trough pushed farther southeast over the last 24 hours, drove weak cold front through the local area. Much drier air has and will continue to remain in the area as surface ridge building in from the north maintains drier air advection. Dewpoints about 15 degrees lower than previous days means much cooler morning lows as well as no more muggy conditions for now. MEFFER&&.LONG TERM...(Thursday through Monday night)Issued at 352 PM CDT Tue Oct 8 2024Gradual eastward shift as the week progresses of the trough and ridge building in it's wake means several days of quiet weather locally. Although temps may not be that much cooler than they are today, and even above climo for highs, the continued lower dewpoints will lend to very pleasant feeling conditions. No appreciable changes for the remainder of the extended forecast period. &&.AVIATION...(18Z TAFS)Issued at 352 PM CDT Tue Oct 8 2024Light winds and clear skies will maintain VFR conditions through this cycle.MEFFER&&.MARINE...Issued at 352 PM CDT Tue Oct 8 2024Tight local pressure gradient is being created by Hurricane Milton and surface ridge building in from the north will maintain 15 to 25 knot winds in the open Gulf waters and weaker winds closer to the coastlines through next few days. Conditions will gradually fade late this week as Milton tracks east across FL into the open Atlantic Ocean. The pressure field will breakdown beyond that which should yield low/no impact marine conditions for a few days.
