AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
National Weather Service Wilmington OH
1020 PM EDT Mon Sep 9 2024
.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure and a dry airmass will remain in place across the
region through mid week. Remnants from Tropical Storm Francine
may eventually bring a chance of showers to the Ohio Valley
late in the week.
&&
.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/...
Surface high pressure will remain in place over th Ohio Valley
night, providing another mostly clear night. With light winds,
good radiational cooling can be expected again so will continue
to undercut guidance a few degrees. Lows tonight will be in the
mid 40s to lower 50s, although some outlying areas may even get
a bit cooler.
&&
.SHORT TERM /6 AM THIS MORNING THROUGH 6 PM WEDNESDAY/...
The surface high will drift slowly east Tuesday into Tuesday
night but still remain in control of our weather. It looks like
there is continued potential for some elevated smoke to affect
the region, so the sunshine may be filtered at times through the
day on Tuesday. The airmass will continue to moderate with highs
on Tuesday in the the low to mid 80s. Lows Tuesday night will
be mostly in the low to mid 50s.
&&
.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Period begins under high pressure and dry weather Wednesday and
Thursday. Unsettled weather enters the forecast starting Thursday night
when the remnants of tropical system Francine move up toward the
western Ohio Valley, bringing a chance of showers mainly to southern
locations. Model blend shows the threat for showers and a few
thunderstorms spreading across the entire ILN area by Friday afternoon,
with shower chances persisting through the weekend and Monday as the
weakening system fills in while moisture lingers. Breezy conditions
will probably accompany the remnants, and gusts to 20 knots in the
current forecast may need to be increased with later forecasts.
Warm high temperatures in the mid and upper 80s Wednesday and Thursday
can be expected to retreat to the low 70s to mid 80s Friday through
Monday as cloud cover and precipitation work against insolation.
&&
.AVIATION /02Z TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Surface high pressure and a dry airmass will continue across
the region through Tuesday. An elevated smoke layer will be
possible at times, otherwise mostly clear skies are expected.
With light winds tonight, areas of river valley fog will be
possible again late tonight into Tuesday morning, leading to the
possibility of MVFR to IFR vsby restrictions at KLUK. The fog
will improve quickly Tuesday morning with continued VFR
conditions thru the remainder of the day.
OUTLOOK...No significant weather expected.
