135 FXUS64 KLIX 050841AFDLIXArea Forecast DiscussionNational Weather Service New Orleans LA341 AM CDT Mon Aug 5 2024...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, AVIATION, MARINE....SHORT TERM...(Today through Tuesday)Issued at 224 AM CDT Mon Aug 5 2024Upper low is in the process of cutting off from the base of the upper long wave trough. The upper low will move west to the west coast of Mexico. This process will allow the upper trough to lift out leaving Debby stranded over the SE. Once the upper trough lifts out, the high that fills behind will stop its NE motion causing it to slowly move back toward the Atlantic seaboard near Georgia for Tue. What this means for our area is a continual filtering of dry air to the west of the system. Some storms will fire each day near the coast or just offshore but that will be about it. Heat advisories should be common through the week as even actual temps will be quite warm with many locations hitting the century mark over the next several day.&&.LONG TERM...(Tuesday night through Sunday)Issued at 224 AM CDT Mon Aug 5 2024Same conditions continue through much of the extended with heat advisories daily for most of this fcast. After the upper trough pulls away, the Bermuda high will eventually build back into the east coast driving Debby west and inland over the SE possibly by Thu morning. A new upper trough begins to dig over the northern states by late Thu and should be deep enough by Fri to influence what is left of Debby by Fri night. Depending on how close the system gets to us will make the extended fcast wet or dry. There is the possibility that it is close enough to raise precip chances over the eastern fifth of the area Fri. Whatever if left of Debby gets picked up by this trough and quickly moves it NE bringing the area back into another dry regime.&&.AVIATION...(12Z TAFS) Issued at 224 AM CDT Mon Aug 5 2024All terminals will be VFR through this taf cycle.&&.MARINE...Issued at 224 AM CDT Mon Aug 5 2024Northerly winds today around 15kt will gradually shift to westerly or NW and rise to around 20kt early Wed ande remain that direction through the end of the week with fluctuations in wind speeds day to day. Higher winds and seas will be in and around storms that develop each day.&&.PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...MCB 95 75 98 75 / 0 0 0 0 BTR 100 79 101 79 / 10 0 0 0 ASD 99 78 100 79 / 10 0 10 0 MSY 97 82 99 81 / 10 10 10 0 GPT 98 79 100 80 / 10 10 10 0 PQL 100 77 103 78 / 10 10 10 0 &&.LIX WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...LA...Heat Advisory from 10 AM this morning to 7 PM CDT this evening for LAZ034>037-039-046>048-056>060-064>071-076>090.
