.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 1212 PM CDT Thu Aug 27 2026

Persistent northerly surface flow and an upper trof overhead will
provide near to slightly below normal temperatures and lower
humidity through Saturday. Winds will gradually shift back to
the south Saturday as a surface high over the Great Lakes region
moves eastward. Upper level ridging over the western half of
the U.S. will gradually shift eastward through the weekend into
early next week, moving overhead by mid week. This will keep the
PAH forecast dry over the next week. By early next week, the
middle Mississippi and lower Ohio valleys will be sandwiched
between a surface high to our east and low pressure to our west.
This will result in increasing south to southwest flow across
our region. A warming trend will begin Sunday and continue
through next week, pushing high temperatures Monday through
Thursday into the middle to upper 90s, with some areas pushing
100 degrees Wednesday and Thursday. Dew points will remain in
the upper 60s to around 70 degrees through the period, so heat
indices will generally be 4 to 6 degrees above the actual
temperatures. The HeatRisk Map indicates our region the the
major category by Tuesday and Wednesday, and major to extreme
Thursday. The duration of this heat wave may result in some heat
headlines next week.
