- Dangerous heat continues areawide. Heat Advisories are in
effect through Tuesday and an Extreme Heat Warning goes into
effect for our coastal areas on Tuesday.
- A High Risk of rip currents is expected to return midweek for
our Florida beaches.
- Daily afternoon and evening scattered thunderstorm chances
increase in the middle to latter part of the week.

Isolated showers and thunderstorms continue to develop as of early
evening as they move south, particularly as outflow interacts with
the Mobile Bay breeze. This activity is expected to diminish within
the next few hours with the loss of daytime heating. JGC/98

Very hot and humid conditions will persist across the area through
at least mid week. High temperatures will top out in the upper
90's to near 100 Tuesday, with heat indices near 110 over interior
portions of the area while areas nearer the coast may see heat
indices locally up to 115. This in combination with very warm
overnight temperatures in the middle to upper 70's will result in
significant heat stress for any individuals spending prolonged
periods of time outside or have limited access to air conditioning.
Given the potential for heat indices up to 115, we have opted to
go with an Extreme Heat Warning for coastal portions of
Mobile/Baldwin counties eastward through coastal Escambia, Santa
Rosa, and Okaloosa counties Tuesday. Elsewhere, a Heat Advisory
will be in effect Tuesday for heat indices to near 110. Drink
plenty of fluids and limit time outdoors if possible by taking
frequent breaks! We will have to contend with at least one more
day of high heat indices Wednesday, particularly across the
western half of the area as heat indices once again rise to near
110. Additional heat advisories will likely be needed as we move
forward in time.
As we head into mid to late week temperatures and heat indices
will begin to relax some as upper ridging shifts west and we get
upper troughing to begin influencing the area. This will in turn
bring a much wetter pattern to the area with scattered to numerous
showers and thunderstorms possible, particularly as we head into
late week and the weekend. While it's difficult to pinpoint any
particular day for elevated chances for strong to severe storms,
the potential for locally damaging wind gusts associated with any
microbursts will exist each afternoon in addition to brief, heavy
rainfall and frequent lightning in storms.
Persistent westerly flow across the marine waters will help to
build surf and swell which will likely cause issues with rip
currents. A low risk for rip currents across the Alabama coast
today and Tuesday becomes a Moderate risk Wednesday through
Friday. Likewise, a Moderate risk of rip currents today and
tomorrow becomes a High risk Wednesday through Friday. MM/25

Generally VFR conditions are expected to prevail through the period.
Isolated showers and storms will gradually diminish through the
evening hours, but could still cause brief drops in visbys to MVFR
or lower and brief gusty winds. A 10-20% chance of a shower or storm
also exists over coastal counties Tuesday afternoon. Winds will be
mainly light and variable tonight, becoming northwesterly around 5-
10 knots in the morning and turning southwesterly near the coast
with the sea breeze in the afternoon. JGC/98

A diurnal wind pattern is expected early in the week with a light to
moderate northwesterly flow early each morning turning westerly to
occasionally southwesterly through the afternoon and evening. Light
to moderate westerly flow becomes established the latter half of the
week. Storm coverage will increase by mid week with winds and waves
locally higher near any storms. Small craft should exercise
caution over the gulf through much of the week. MM/25
