...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 545 PM EDT THIS
AFTERNOON FOR NORTHWESTERN DECATUR AND SOUTHEASTERN SHELBY
COUNTIES...
At 342 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms have moved
south with lighter rain across the warned area. 2 to 3 inches of
rain have fallen over southeast Shelby County. Flash flooding is
ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Any additional rainfall will
be less than a half inch.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE...Radar.
IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
drainage and low-lying areas.
Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Geneva and St. Paul.
This includes the following streams and drainages...
Little Lewis Creek, Mill Creek, Duck Creek, Little Haw Creek,
Lewis Creek, Tough Creek, Conns Creek, Deer Creek and Flatrock
River.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law
enforcement and request they pass this information to the National
Weather Service when you can do so safely.
