AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
National Weather Service Jackson KY
410 AM EDT Sat Apr 12 2025

.KEY MESSAGES...

- Our next in a series of cold fronts will approach Monday and
move through Monday night, bringing at least a likelihood of
  rain for most places.

- Temperature swings can be expected over the next week due to the
quick moving nature of significant weather systems.

- On the coldest nights (mainly tonight and Tuesday night), frost
  will be possible.

.SHORT TERM...(Today through Sunday)
Issued at 410 AM EDT SAT APR 12 2025

Surface high pressure will build in from the northwest today,
drying up the last of our low clouds in southeast KY. The high
will pass over tonight, resulting in light winds. Upper level
ridging will also build in from the northwest. A few high clouds
will probably spill through the ridge overnight, but they're not
likely to be enough to have much effect on radiating. That being
the case, the light winds and dry air mass should allow for chilly
temperatures, with frost for much of the area by dawn. Ridges may
escape, but valleys should have a good coating. An advisory will
be needed again, but upon collaborating, surrounding offices
preferred to hold off until the current advisory expires.

With the surface high departing to the southeast on Sunday, warm
air advection will return as ridging aloft arrives. This will
support warmer temperatures, but probably not quite as warm as it
could be if not for some mid-upper level clouds expected in a deep
pattern of warm air advection/lift.

.LONG TERM...(Sunday night through Friday)
Issued at 410 AM EDT SAT APR 12 2025

An updated long term discussion will be sent shortly.

&&

.AVIATION...(For the 06Z TAFS through 06Z Saturday night)
ISSUED AT 1220 AM EDT SAT APR 12 2025

Largely MVFR conditions (due to ceilings) should be present to
start the period, but some areas of VFR are also expected,
particularly in northern and western sections of the forecast
area. Continued improvement is forecast, with clouds drying up
from northwest to southeast and giving way to VFR conditions area
wide by around 16Z. VFR conditions then carry through the rest of
the period. Winds will generally be northwest to north less than
10 kts.
