.FORECAST UPDATE...
Issued at 914 AM EDT Sat Oct 24 2026

Surface analysis this morning shows strong high pressure centered
over NY and the upper St. Lawrence river valley. This large high was
extending its influence west across Indiana to easterm TX and
Eastern OK. A frontal boundary was found over the eastern Dakotas
and the High plains. Skies were mostly clear across Indiana, but
GOES16 did show a few high clouds within the Wabash Valley. Water
Vapor showed strong ridging still in place aloft over the
Mississippi Valley and western Grerat Lakes, but a tropical plume of
moisture was noted on the back side of the ridge, streaming north
across the high plains.

The large high pressure system and ridging aloft to the west of
Indiana will continue to provide subsidence and mostly sunny skies
today. Forecast soundings through the day suggest a dry column as we
have seen over the past several days. Some high cloud will continue
to persist within the Wabash valley, but all in all, Mostly Sunny
will be the rule. Looks for highs near persistence, in the lower
70s. Overall, ongoing forecast remains in good shape.

.DISCUSSION (Today through Friday)...
Issued at 210 AM EDT Sat Oct 24 2026

Quiet weather with above normal temperatures will continue through
much of next week, with rain chances returning around Halloween.

Early This Morning through Sunday...

Subsidence from upper ridging and surface high pressure will
continue to provide dry conditions through Sunday. Winds will remain
light. High clouds will spill across the ridge into the area at
times.

Look for highs around 70 to the lower 70s today and in the lower to
middle 70s Sunday. Lows will be in the 40s (did cut guidance for
lows tonight in favored cold areas given what has happened recently).

Monday through Wednesday...

An upper trough across southern Canada will help suppress the upper
ridge south on Monday, which will allow a surface cold front
to sag into central Indiana on Monday. The front won't get much
farther south as upper flow will become near parallel to it.
Generally only high level moisture will be available, and upper
support is nowhere nearby. Thus, dry conditions will persist.

Additional upper waves moving through the flow, mainly to the
northwest of the area, will bring the front back north and out of
the area Tuesday into Wednesday. Again, little to no local forcing
and no moisture will keep the area dry.

Highs will be in the lower to middle 70s Monday and Wednesday.
Behind the front on Tuesday, highs will be around 70 to the lower
70s.

Thursday onward...

Weak upper ridging will linger into Friday, keeping a front to the
northwest and continuing the dry conditions with above normal
temperatures.

Uncertainty increases for Halloween as a broad upper trough begins
to slowly approach the area. Some guidance has showers in the area
on Halloween while others keep them west until later Saturday night.
Will stick with blended guidance's chance PoPs but with low
confidence. Temperatures look to remain above normal.

for portions of the overnight tonight.
