.DISCUSSION (Today through Monday)...
Issued at 312 AM EDT Tue Oct 20 2026
Lovely autumn weather will continue to be the rule through the seven
day forecast period, courtesy of broad, quasi-stationary ridging.
Surface high pressure that has occupied much of the eastern two-
thirds of North America..will be maintained from the MS Valley to
Atlantic coast...while corresponding upper ridging builds across
the continent, extending from central Mexico to eastern Canada by
the end of the week.
Meanwhile in central Indiana, the lack of waves from the retracted
jet will keep light to calm winds, which should display an overall
veering from NE to SE this week as the surface ridge axis slides
from the Great Lakes to the Appalachians. The building upper
ridge's proximity from just west, to over the local region, will
provide strong subsidence, maintaining an overall dry column. The
only possibly impactful weather will be early morning fog, which
would be favored in/near valleys along rivers and creek beds.
For latter portions of the period, an increasingly active northern
jet stream will likely host a potent baroclinic system over central
Canada this weekend. However, the only effects on the CWA through
next Monday would be a more pronounced breeze ahead of the system's
dragging / quasi-stationary cold front. High confidence in no
precipitation through this weekend with the staunch surface ridge
adjusting its alignment over the Deep South, blocking any
organized return of Gulf moisture...and most likely directing any
moderate rainfall with the northern system's front closer to
WI/MI. Potential for a transition to colder conditions by the
middle of next week.

.AVIATION (06Z TAF Issuance)...
Issued at 128 AM EDT Tue Oct 20 2026
Impacts: None expected
Discussion:
VFR conditions will continue through Tuesday evening near central
Indiana terminals under axis of broad and amplified ridge of
autumnal high pressure drifting slowly east over Indiana. A couple
small H500 weaknesses embedded in overlying zonal ridge will provide
FEW/SCT cirrus, especially near KHUF/KLAF, and mainly before 18Z.
Brief MVFR visibility is possible in patchy fog outside of KIND, yet
confidence too low to include in any TAF. Winds will be often light
and variable...with headings 040-090 degrees favored after 14Z, amid
flow mainly 5KT or less.
