Summary...Flash flood potential continues along the Ohio Valley
and vicinity.
Discussion...While a relatively focused axis of moderate to heavy
rainfall persists from central/southern IN into southwestern Oh,
heavy rainfall is confined to a couple of areas: 1) near Dayton
and vicinity and 2) near Terra Haute. Both of these areas reside
along a low-level boundary that has been convectively augmented by
outflow from prior storms. Both areas of convection are making
slow, but steady progress eastward toward areas that have low FFG
from prior rainfall (near 1 inch/hr in southeastern OH, 1-1.5
inch/hr in southwestern OH and points westward). Light southerly
low-level flow ahead of these convective clusters was helping to
maintain areas of 1000 J/kg MLCAPE and 1.5 inch PW values ahead of
the complex, and sufficient instability exists downstream to
maintain convection to the Ohio River and OH/WV border region over
the next 3-5 hours or so. Given wet antecedent conditions, soils
capable of excessive rainfall, locally sensitive terrain, and
ongoing 1-1.5 inch/hr rain rates (exceeding local FFG), flash
flood potential is apparent with this activity for the next
several hours.
