.UPDATE...
Issued at 655 AM CDT Wed Jul 1 2026

Patchy fog has developed across interior portions of south
central Alabama and the western Florida Panhandle this morning.
Updated the current forecast to add mention of this patchy fog. Fog
should dissipate within the next hour or two. Otherwise, no other
changes were needed to the latest forecast package. A Heat Advisory
remains in effect for our southeast Mississippi counties from 10 AM
through 7 PM for heat indices up to around 108-110. Outside of this
advisory, heat indices should generally range from 100 to 107.
Isolated to widely scattered storms are also possible this
afternoon, mainly over the western half of the local area. Due to
the highly unstable environment in place, cannot rule out a few
stronger storms capable of producing gusty winds to around 40-60
mph. /96

.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 1236 AM CDT Wed Jul 1 2026

Hot and humid conditions continue across the region today. An upper
level ridge is currently centered over the OH/TN River Valleys,
putting us on the southern periphery of the ridge and dominated with
easterly flow. We have widespread heat index values of 102-110
today with the highest values in the western half of our area. We
have issued a Heat Advisory for our Mississippi counties today
from 10 AM to 7 PM. For the rest of the week, heat index values
look to be below advisory criteria, but still very hot in the
100-107 range each afternoon. Heat index values approach Heat
Advisory criteria for the holiday weekend and will be monitored
over the coming days. There will be little overnight relief with
lows only reaching the low to mid 70s each night and even higher
along the coast they may approach 80. Anybody outdoors should
drink plenty of water, take breaks in A/C when possible, and
monitor for signs of heat illness.

Rain chances decrease over the coming days with drier air starting
to funnel in with PWATs dropping to 1.8" today and 1.5" for Thursday
and Friday. As the ridge moves off the coast into the Atlantic, we
will have increasing pops into the weekend. This will be more of a
normal summertime pattern with daily chances for showers and
thunderstorms along the sea breeze and resultant outflow boundaries.

.AVIATION...
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 655 AM CDT Wed Jul 1 2026

Patchy fog over portions of south central AL and northwest FL is
quickly dissipating at issuance time. Prevailing VFR conditions are
expected through the period outside of a few isolated to scattered
showers and storms this afternoon. The greatest chances for storms
(around 30%) exists along the I-10 corridor and southeast MS, a few
of which may cause brief reductions in flight categories. A light
easterly to southeasterly flow is expected today, becoming light and
variable after sunset. /98

.MARINE...

will continue through Thursday. A light diurnal pattern returns for
Friday and Saturday, with onshore flow expected during the afternoon
