...COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM FRIDAY TO 1 AM CDT
SUNDAY...
...HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY AFTERNOON
THROUGH LATE SUNDAY NIGHT...
* WHAT...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, minor coastal flooding
expected. For the High Rip Current Risk, dangerous rip
currents expected.
* WHERE...In Alabama, Mobile Coastal and Baldwin Coastal
Counties. In Florida, Escambia Coastal, Santa Rosa Coastal and
Okaloosa Coastal Counties.
* WHEN...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, from 1 PM Friday to 1
AM CDT Sunday. For the High Rip Current Risk, from Friday
afternoon through late Sunday night.
* IMPACTS...Flooding due to wave run-up of localized vulnerable
areas along the Gulf facing beaches is possible. Some minor
flooding of parking lots, normally dry beach areas and a few
isolated roads could occur in normally flood prone areas. Rip
currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into
deeper water.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Long period swell associated with distant
Hurricane Beryl moving toward the Yucatan Peninsula will arrive
along area beaches by Friday early afternoon. The swell in
combination with high tidal ranges and outgoing tide in the
afternoon and evening will favor the development of dangerous
rip currents Friday through the weekend. Those visiting area
beaches should familiarize themselves with the beach flag system
and follow lifeguard instructions. In addition to the rip
currents, there could also be a localized potential of some salt
water flooding due to wave run-up issues at some of our
especially problematic and vulnerable spots along our Gulf front
beaches. While coastal flooding in the general sense (due to
above normal tides) is not expected there could be some run-up
issues that could cause problems at a few of our more
vulnerable areas along the Gulf beach front, like the west end
of Dauphin Island and around the Fort Pickens area.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth.
Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.
Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.
