.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 211 PM CDT Thu Jul 24 2025

Heat messaging continues to be the main story. Ridging aloft
continues to influence the weather across the region with a hot
and humid airmass remaining in place. Satellite trends the past
few hours show mostly flat CU but some vertical growth has been
noted across southwest Indiana and far eastern southern Illinois
past few hours. This area would likely have the best chances of
an isolated shower or storm today based on sat trends and near
term guidance. This may bring only temporary relief to the heat
today with highs still expected to top out into the mid to upper
90s. The extreme heat warning will expire at 00z tonight but
have extended a heat advisory for the entire region through
Friday afternoon. It likely heat headlines will be needed past
Friday, especially next week.

The upper ridge expands westward over the weekend. Slightly
lower temperatures are expected on Saturday with highs in the
lower 90s. Additional chances of showers and storms are possible
Saturday afternoon. Upper heights builds across the region
Sunday into Monday before retrograding westward through next
week. Even hotter temperatures are advertised with a humid
airmass remaining in place. PoPs are mostly silent next week,
although slight chances return by Wednesday into Thursday as a
front works its way in from the north. A cooler and drier
airmass is likely to make its way into the region toward the
very end of the 7 day period.
