A tornado struck parts of central McLean County last Wednesday
evening.

Survey Summary:
An EF-2 tornado began in the Pack Church community southwest of
Calhoun. Moving northeast, the tornado was identified by trained
weather spotters as it moved across open fields as it approached
Calhoun. In Calhoun, the tornado damaged the roof of a historic
brick building downtown as well as damaging the steeple of a
nearby church and the roof of an adjacent home. As the tornado
reached the east side of Calhoun, it snapped the trunks of
several trees in the city park and damaged outbuildings at the 4H
fairgrounds. East of Calhoun on Highway 136, the tornado snapped
two wooden power transmission poles and severely damaged an
outbuilding. The tornado then crossed Highway 250 where it
damaged another outbuilding and snapped several large hardwood
tree trunks. The tornado ended northeast of Calhoun near the
intersection of Troutman Hills Road and Highway 798. NWS Paducah
would like to thank McLean County Judge Executive Curtis Dame for
his assistance with this damage survey.

EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the
following categories:

EF0.....65 to 85 mph
EF1.....86 to 110 mph
EF2.....111 to 135 mph
EF3.....136 to 165 mph
EF4.....166 to 200 mph
EF5.....>200 mph
