.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 332 AM CST Wed Feb 26 2025
Broad diffluent flow aloft will overspread the area today ahead
of an upper level trough. A cold front associated with this
trough is forecast to move through the Quad State this afternoon
and tonight. Temperatures should warm into the mid 60's to near
70 degrees this afternoon. Moisture return is weak ahead of
this front but frontal convergence along with a local increase
in deep layer ascent from a 130 knot jet streak should promote
an increase in coverage of rain showers ahead of the front.
Cooler temperatures return to the forecast Thursday through
Friday as northwest flow develops aloft. High pressure will
settle to our west across the plains. Dry weather is forecast
both Thursday and Friday. A clipper system is progged to move
across the Great Lakes late Friday into Saturday. A dry cold
front will move through the region associated with this system.
High pressure moves over the region behind the front with
temperatures near to slightly below normal Saturday and Sunday.
Early next week, surface high pressure moves east allowing for
winds to turn back to the south leading to moderating
temperatures. A weak disturbance may bring a few scattered
showers on Monday but better chances of rain occur on Tuesday as
a deeper trough makes its way across the central plains.
